In the Name of God Amen. I John Wattson of Stanhope in the parish of Stanhope & County of Durham Blacksmith being of sound mind & disposing memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament In manner following

I give to John Newton the Elder of the Town of Stanhope the sum of five Shillings I give to John Newton the Younger of Egglestone the sum of five Shillings both of which Legacy's I do hereby order shall be paid by my Executrix hereafter named within six months next after my death & decease

I give & bequeath to my dearly beloved Sister Mary Maddison wife of John Maddison of Stanhope in the parish & County aforesaid all my dwelling houses Smith Shop & all the appurtenances to each & every of them belonging for and during the term of her Natural life & from & after her death & decease then my mind & will is that all the above premisses shall go to her husband John Maddison for & during the term of his natural life & from & after the death & decease of the aforenamed Mary Maddison & John Maddison then my mind & will is the Large Dwelling house wch. they now live in together with the garth outhouses & all other appurtenances to the same belonging situate on the north side of the Town of Stanhope Shall go & descend to Lowenger Maddison second Son of the aforenamed Mary & John Maddison & to him & his heirs for Ever

I give & bequeath to John Maddison Eldest son of the aforenamed Mary & John Maddison after their death & decease the Little house Smiths shop & Room over it together wth. the stable & appurtenances thereunto belonging to him & his heirs for Ever the same being opposite to the Large dwelling house on the north side of the Town of Stanhope as aforesaid

and whereas there is due & owing upon Mortgage at this time the sum of Sixty pounds & all the aforenamed premisses are Ingaged for the same my mind & will is that the aforenamed Lowenger Maddison second son of Mary & John Maddison shall pay the sum of ffifty pounds & that John Maddison Eldest son as aforesaid shall pay the sum of ten pounds wch. two several sums shall be paid to the Mortgagee of the aforesaid premises all other debts by me owing & my funeral Expences

I do hereby order to be paid by my Sister Mary Maddison whom I do appoint Sole Executrix of this my will & after payment of the Legacy's aforesd. my Just debts & funeral Expences the rest & residue of my Estate, whatsomev[..] I give to the said Mary Maddison & I do hereby disannull & revoke all former wills by me made & do declare this & no other to be my last will & testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this third day of March one Thousand seven hundred & sixty nine

The Day & year above written Benezer Powell one of the Subscribing Witnesses to the last Will & Testament of John Watson late of Stanhope in the Diocese of Durham deceas'd was sworn to the Truth & due Execution thereof & Mary Wife of John Maddison a natural & lawful Sister of the said deceas'd & sole Executrix in the said Will Nam'd was also sworn well & faithfully to Execute & perform the same
