Jane Watson (born 1841) was the fifth child of Ralph and Jane Watson, of Ireshopeburn. Although we think she may have died young, what is certain is that she lived long enough to embroider this sampler at age 12. Despite its age, the piece is well preserved and the colours are only moderately faded.
