Letter of John P. Cook to his uncle, Rev. John Watson DD
(1901)

[written after the death of John's wife Eleanor (nee Cook)]

April 9th 1901

Dear Uncle

I must express my deep regret at not being present at Aunt Ellie's interment - but as Bob will have no doubt explained to you, he only received the letter on Saturday morning, and it was 10 oclock before he could get word to me - of course it was impossible to be there then and I can assure you I was very much put about. As I most certainly would have been there to show my respect for her whom I always looked up to with pride, and will ever remember as one of the best & dearest of women, always sympathetic, & kind to a fault.

I trust Kate, Annie & yourself are keeping well under the sad circumstances

Your affectionate nephew
John P. Cook
