Letters of Annie Watson, daughter of Rev. John Watson DD
(c1886-1930)

[written on a scrap of writing paper; Annie would have been 5 or 6 years old, perhaps.]

My Dear Grandma,

I got a pretty doll last night. I am learning my a.b.c. and can count a little.

[footnote by mother Eleanor, written at right angles in bottom-left corner]

Annie wrote this with me holding her hand. She made the kisses herself.

Dear Grandma,

As Kate is writing to you I think I will send a little note too. I enjoyed my holiday at the Isle of Man very much. Nearly every day I had rides on the donkeys, and two bathes in the sea. I played on the sands the whole day with my spade and bucket. About a week ago we all spent a day at a farm house and as there was a very nice little girl I stayed there all night and was driven home the next day.

With best love to Auntie and yourself.
I am
your loving
Annie

God's goodness hath been great to thee
Let never day nor night unhallowed pass
But still remember what the Lord hath done.

[Text on the rear:]

This is where Dick gave me my engagement ring
Nance.
